Miller's Karst Hunter tabbed as RMAC player to watch

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Miller High School graduate Karst Hunter was selected as a “Player to Watch” in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason football release. 

In 2021, Hunter set several single-season passing marks during his first season behind center including yards (2,481), completions (190), and completion percentage (62.5). He was the RMAC Offensive Freshman of the Year, an all-conference honorable mention performer and a three-time offensive player of the week recipient. He threw for a season-high 314 passing yards and three touchdowns in a win over New Mexico Highlands last season. 


Hunter, who began his career at South Dakota State University, will be a redshirt sophomore this fall. The Mavericks were picked to finish fourth in the preseason RMAC poll. 

The Mavericks received a total of 53 points in the poll with the top spot being occupied by national power Colorado School of Mines who finished with 81 points and all nine possible first-place votes.

Colorado Mesa will open the season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at William Jewell (Missouri).
