The USA Today has named Pierre’s Lincoln Kienholz as its national boys athlete of the year. He was announced as the winner during an awards ceremony on Sunday night.

In November, Kienholz wrapped up his prep football career as he led Pierre TF Riggs to a sixth straight program 11AA title – his third as the Governors quarterback. He was a three-time Joe Robbie MVP recipient.

He finished his high school career by becoming the all-time leading passer in South Dakota state history with 9,100 passing yards. He also threw for 104 touchdowns.

As a dual threat quarterback, he had more than 3,500 rushing yards and 44 rushing touchdowns for his career as well. In his senior year, he threw for 46 touchdowns and ran for another 24 scores.

Kienholz was an all-state basketball and baseball player for the Governors. He finished as Pierre's second all-time leading scorer, while leading the Governors to the consolation championship at state. He helped the Governors win the Class A high school state championship in the spring.

Kienholz is now a member of the Ohio State University football team.
