If you aren’t able to attend Saturday’s Bill Pistulka Invitational, it will be livestreamed at www.liveticket.tv

Field events begin at 11:00 a.m. with running events starting at 1:00 p.m.

Teams participating will be: Bennett County, Burke, Chamberlain, Colome, Jones County, Lakota Tech, Lyman, Little Wound, St. Francis Indian, Todd County, Valentine, Winner

Athletes to keep an eye on:

Boys:

  1. Aaron Monk, Winner, 110-meter hurdles: Monk opened his season running :15.27 at the Gregory Invitational. Monk has the fastest time in South Dakota this spring regardless of class.

  2. Ben Witt, Burke, long-jump and 800-meter run: Witt won the 800 meters (2:06) and long jump (20-5) at Gregory. This season, Witt could challenge the 800-meter record at Burke (2:00.23, Ryan Burns, 1997) and the oldest Burke record (Larancry Kelso’s long jump record of 21-5 from 1958)

  3. Kade Watson (Winner) and Dom Santiago (Chamberlain): Two of the top Class A distance runners in South Dakota, both who have signed to run collegiately. Watson has signed with the University of Sioux Falls. Santiago will run for Valley City State University next fall.

  4. Shawn Hammerbeck (Winner): The 6-foot-6 freshman opened his season winning the shot put (40-7) at Gregory. Also ran a leg on Winner’s 4x100 relay team that has the fastest time in Class A (:46.15)

  5. TJ Moran - Lyman: Won the discus competition in Gregory (128-03). That mark is currently the top throw in Class B.

Girls:

  1. Kailee Frank, Burke: The freshman currently has the No. 2 800-meter time in Class B (2:34.70) and the No. 1 Class B time in the 1,600-meter run (5:28.59). The Chamberlain girls have yet to run this spring but the Cubs were second in Class A cross-country last fall and will bring some competition in those distance races.

  2. Piper Hanson, Burke: According to athletic.net, Hanson has the fastest Class B times in the 100-meter hurdles (:17.17) and 300-meter hurdles (:50.5).

  3. Skyler Volmer, Lyman: Volmer and Hanson should have a nice battle in the 100-meter hurdles. Volmer also leads all Class B high jumpers with a leap of 5-02.

  4. Jenna Hammerbeck Winner: Hammerbeck opened her season winning the long jump in Gregory (15-10). That jump is No. 2 amongst all Class A long jumpers

  5. Ellie Brozik, Winner: The 2019 Class A triple jump champion opened her season with a leap of 34-6. That is the farthest jump in Class A so far this season.

  6. Eden Fanning, Bennett County: Fanning has yet to run this season but should be primed for good efforts in the 100 and 200-meter events.
