Sioux Falls Christian teams repeat as Class A state track and field champions

SIOUX FALLS — The proverbial thought heading into the Class A state track meet was the Sioux Falls Christian girls and boys would dominate action.

The Chargers did nothing to disappoint, easily winning both team titles. 

For the girls the Charger girls swept every relay available and scored points and got points in just about every running event contested this weekend. 

The Charger girls racked up 126.5 points, ahead of Mount Vernon/Plankinton (68.5) and Custer (49). Sioux Valley (46) and West Central (41) rounded out the top-five. 

Sioux Falls Christian senior Josiah Adams won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash for Sioux Falls Christian. Senior Isaac Davelaar broke his own meet record in the 1,600-meter run (4:14.94) and anchored the Chargers 1,600-meter relay to a title (3:22.67).

Sioux Falls Christian scored 153 points, ahead of Custer (45) and West Central (42). Lennox (39.5) and Platte-Geddes (38) rounded out the top-five. 

Saturday’s girls highlights: 

  • MVP’s Reagan Rus won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.45)

  • Red Cloud’s Ashlan Carlow wrapped up a brilliant freshman season by winning the 300-meter hurdles (:45.73). 

  • MVP’s Berkeley Engelland added state titles in the 100-meter dash (:12.36), 200-meter dash (:26.12) and 400-meter dash (:56.11).

  • Sioux Valley’s Isabelle Bloker won the 1,600-meter run Saturday (5:03.55) to go with her 3,200 meter run title on Friday. 

  • TheSioux Falls Christian girls won the 400-meter relay, 800-meter relay, 1,600 meter relay, sprint medley relay and the 3,200 meter relay at this year’s Class A state track meet. 

Saturday’s boys highlights:

  • Josiah Adams, Sioux Falls Christian: The Sioux Falls Christian senior won the 110-meter hurdles (:14.78), the 100-meter dash (:10.84) and the 300-meter hurdles (:38.95). 

  • Platte-Geddes senior Lee Reiser repeated as Class A state shot put champion (57-7.25). He also won the discus on Thursday. 

  • Custer’s Blake Boyster won his third consecutive Class A title in the 400-meter dash (:48.96). The senior also won the 200-meter dash :22.69 and anchored Custer’s 1,600 meter relay to second place (3:27.71),

  • Aberdeen Central’s Jayden Munroe won the long jump Saturday (21-6.25) to go along with Friday’s triple jump championship. 

  • The Platte-Geddes foursome of Skyler Hanten, Trevor Rolland, Hayden Sprik and Aiden Bultje won the Class A 400-meter relay in school record time (:43.80).
