VERMILLION — When it was all said and done there was no question the Todd County Falcons were the best team in the A-Division of the All-Nations Football Conference.

Behind a bruising running attack and an opportunistic defense the Falcons defeated Red Cloud, 72-26 at the DakotaDome on Friday.

Offensive MVP Sayge Yellow Eagle Powered the Falcons rushing for 158 yards and four touchdowns. Ty Valandra added 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Todd County.

Early on this was a close game as the Falcons scored on a 1-yard plunge from Ray Crow. The completed 2-point conversion gave Todd County an 8-0 lead.

Red Cloud answered right back as Adriano Rama found Josiah Cottier with a 30-yard touchdown pass. The Crusaders took their only lead of the night, 12-8 as Cottier scored on a 25-yard run.

After a 1-yard touchdown run from Rocky Wiedman and another 2-point conversion the Falcons regained the lead, 18-16.

That’s when the Todd County defense led by Defensive MVP Stacy Eagle Bear-Poignee took over.

After a big hit forced a Red Cloud fumble, Todd County junior Stryder Yellow Eagle scooped up the loose ball and ran for a 25-yard touchdown.

Following a bad Red Cloud punt the Falcons scored again when Valandra crossed the goal-line on a 3-yard plunge to give the Falcons a 32-12 lead.

On Red Cloud’s next possession, under heavy pressure, Rama floated a loose ball that Stephan Guerue intercepted and returned 25-yards for the Falcons.

Sayge Yellow Eagle closed the half with a 30-yard touchdown run and the Falcons had a comfortable lead, 46-12 at intermission.

Yellow Eagle got loose on a 56-yard touchdown run to start the second half as the Falcons upped their lead to 54-12.

Cottier electrified the DakotaDome crowd with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown but Yellow Eagle answered with a 27-yard touchdown run.

Rama got the final score of the night for Red Cloud on a 30-yard run, evading multiple tacklers before eventually dragging a would-be Falcon tackler with him across the goal line.

Yellow Eagle added his final touchdown of the night, a 25-yard run and Valandra closed the game with a 13-yard touchdown run.

Wiedman was given the Jim Thorpe award as the game’s most valuable player.
