Top Performers of the Week - Cade Kaiser powers Pierre Governors to 18th straight win

The 2023 South Dakota high school football season resumed last week and top performances continued to roll in. 

Here are this week’s top performers across South Dakota for football games on Sept. 7-9.

  • Pierre’s Cade Kaiser powered the high-powered Governors to its 18th straight win on Sept. 8. Kaiser completed 12 of 14 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-8 victory over Mitchell. He also logged 72 rushing yards on four carries. Kaiser threw touchdown passes to Cooper Terwilliger and one to Jett Zabel.
  • Jackson Eisemann had a hand in four total touchdowns in Mobridge-Pollock’s 40-20 win over Redfield on Sept. 8. Eisemann completed 6 of 8 passes for 195 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. He added 137 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. On defense, Eisemann intercepted a pass. 

  • Chester’s Layke Wold completed 11 of 16 passes for 174 yards and threw four passing touchdowns to Jovi Wolf, who hauled in six catches for 111 yards. The duo connected for touchdown passes of 40, 26, 10 and 18 yards. 
  • Deuel’s Trey Maaland rushed for 152 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns in a 27-15 win over Webster Area. Maaland also passed for 60 yards, throwing a touchdown pass to Brandon Fieber.
  • Yankton’s Lucas Kampshoff threw for 371 yards and logged four total touchdowns (two rushing/two passing) in a 31-20 win over Watertown. 
  • Watertown’s Juven Hudson logged 28 carries for 152 yards and three touchdowns against the Bucks. 
  • Estelline-Hendricks’ Caden Ching rushed for 165 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 48-0 win over Iroquois-Lake Preston.

  • Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Derek Brueggeman completed 14 of 19 passes for 297 yards and threw four passing touchdowns in a 38-26 win over Lead-Deadwood. 
  • Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Isaak Hunter hauled in six catches for 137 yards and caught two touchdown receptions. 
  • Harrisburg’s Sam Knuth completed 14 of 18 passes for 273 yards and three passing touchdowns in a 41-13 win over Rapid City Stevens. Max Carlson (103 yards/TD) and Tytan Tryon (97 yards/TD) were his top targets.
  • Spearfish’s Hunter Walters logged 154 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 47-20 victory over Douglas. 
  • Elkton-Lake Benton’s Blake DeVries finished with 96 rushing yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 39-30 win over Deubrook Area.
  • Lennox’s Boston Katzer completed 17 of 33 passes for 185 yards and threw three passing touchdowns in a 28-20 loss against Canton. 
  • Chamberlain’s Cruz Soulek completed 10 of 19 passes for 127 yards and two passing touchdowns. He added 14 carries for 206 yards and three more scores, while intercepting a pass on defense. 

  • Lyman’s Brayden Oldenkamp scored four total touchdowns in a 34-32 OT win over White River. Oldenkamp recorded two rushing touchdowns, one passing and hauled in a 61-yard touchdown reception. Oldenkamp scored the game-winning two-point conversion, one play after evening the score at 32-32.
  • White River’s Nic Marshall led the Tigers with three passing touchdowns and one rushing score. 
  • Gregory’s Landon Keiser scored four total touchdowns in a 52-0 shutout win over Bennett County. Keiser scored three rushing touchdowns, while he added an interception return for a score.
  • Howard’s Taiden Hoyer completed five passes for 122 yards, while he rushed for 138 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 54-20 victory over Colman-Egan. Jackson Remmers and Luke Koepsell hauled in touchdown catches from Hoyer.

  • Gannon Knebel recorded five touchdowns in Wagner’s 32-12 win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian. Knebel scored four rushing touchdowns, while he threw a passing touchdown to Shea Kjeldgaard. 
  • Sioux Valley’s Boden Schiller had a hand in four total touchdowns in a 53-0 shutout win over Hill City. Schiller rushed for three touchdowns, while he also tossed an 89-yard touchdown pass to Maverick Nelson. 
  • Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Hayden Groos completed 12 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-30 victory over Tea area. Henry Theobald caught two touchdown passes and finished with 146 receiving yards. Running back Maverick Jones added 189 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
  • Avon’s Aziah Meyer piled up 234 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a 52-22 victory over Gayville-Volin.

  • De Smet’s Britt Carlson completed 6 of 6 passes for 147 yards and four passing touchdowns in a 57-6 win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland. Kadyn Fast hauled in two touchdown receptions and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. 
  • Hitchcock-Tulare’s Erik Salmen had a hand in five total touchdowns in a 56-38 win over Waverly-South Shore. Salmen finished with 25 carries for 352 yards and four rushing touchdowns, while he added a receiving touchdown.
  • Brandon Valley’s Levi Veskrna logged 24 carries for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 32-0 win over Rapid City Central.
  • Harding County/Bison’s Hayden Pihl and Rylee Veal paced the Ranchers to a 32-14 win over Lemmon/McIntosh. Pihl completed 7 of 12 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Veal added 207 rushing yards and two rushing scores. 
  • Warner’s Hunter Cramer scored four touchdowns in a 61-6 win over Potter County. Cramer rushed for 71 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns, while throwing for 179 yards and one more score. 
  • Faulkton Area’s Layne Cotton passed for 197 yards and four touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown against Sully Buttes.

  • Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Tate Schafer completed 16 of 23 passes for 255 yards and threw two passing touchdowns in a 48-8 win over Sioux Falls Jefferson. Schafer added a rushing score. 
  • Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Jaxsen Gravengoed rushed for 254 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown in a 35-26 victory over Sioux Falls Washington. 
  • Sioux Falls Washington’s Thomas Hoffman completed 16 of 29 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns. He threw a pair of touchdown passes to Pierce Gomarko. Hoffman also connected with Jeremiah Oman for a touchdown strike.
