Alexandria Angels 7, Winner/Colome Pheasants 5

MOUNT VERNON — Alexandria rallied from a 5-2 deficit and edged Sunshine League rival Winner/Colome for the District 5B amateur baseball championship on Friday. 

Trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, Jacob Giles and Jerrod Zens started the rally with a pair of RBIs. In the eighth inning, Tyson Gau hit a solo home run, evening the score at 5-5. Pierce Smith knocked in a pair of runs for a two-run cushion and Alexandria hung on from there. 

Gau finished 2-for-4 and hit a pair of solo home runs. Zens had three hits and hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Michael Schoettmer had two hits. Jordan Gau and Peyton Smith added hits, with Smith driving a pair of runs. 

Alexandria starter Tyler Sanderson struck out six batters, allowed five hits, three earned runs and walked six batters in 5.1 innings. Wyatt Kayser struck out three batters, allowed zero hits and walked four batters in 3.2 scoreless relief innings to earn the win. 

For Winner/Colome, Kelly O’Bryan tallied two hits and drove in two runs. Drew DeMers, Dillon Lambley and Aiden Barfuss each had hits. Barfuss drove in a run. Reed Harter struck out 13 batters, allowed 10 hits, five earned runs and walked two batters in 7.2 innings. 


Parkston Mudcats 5, Corsica Horned Frogs 2

MOUNT VERNON — Max Scott hit two homers and tossed a complete game on the mound as Parkston clinched the final spot in the District 5B tournament Friday.

Scott batted 2-for-4 with three RBIs on two home runs in the win, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks in nine innings, striking out seven as well. Jeff Harris, Spencer Freudenthal, Brayden Jervik and Brady Nolz each tallied a base hit in the win as well.

For Corsica, Tyson Wentland allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out four. Jayce Slaba drove in a run on one hit and two walks, Teddy Slaba added an RBI while Logan Bakker, Brendan Wentland, Nathan Blom and Gavin Zomer each had a hit in the loss.


Canova Gang 13, Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 7

MADISON — Canova pounded out 15 hits as Canova clinched a spot in the state tournament over Hartford/Humboldt Friday.

Riley Genzlinger had three hits, a walk, and two RBIs, Jared Miller recorded three RBIs on two hits, Jason Miller tallied two RBIs on two hits, Jackson Remmers recorded three hits and an RBI, Garrett Gassman added two hits, including a solo homer, while Luke Koepsell and Justin Miller each had an RBI single in the win. Kendall Gassman took the win on the mound in seven innings of work, allowing seven runs on 11 hits and two walks, striking out nine.

For the Wood Ducks, Brayden Odegaard took the loss, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and a walk in six innings pitched. Keaton Vessells had three RBIs on three hits, including a double and a homer, Odegaard recorded three hits, one double, Nathan Adrian and Rayce Whiting each had an RBI single in the loss.

The Wood Ducks will face the Blue Teal for the final spot in the Cornbelt League district tournament Saturday at 3 p.m.


Wessington Springs 8, Colome Chaos 2

CHAMBERLAIN — Wessington Springs claimed the final spot in the District 3B tournament over Colome Friday.

Blake Larson had three hits, a walk and two RBIs, Trevor Kenobbie and Terrek Butterfield each drove in a run on two hits, Drew Olinger and Cade Mohling each had an RBI on one hit, while Camden Jost tallied an RBI walk in the win. Parker DeJean took the win on the mound, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk in nine innings, striking out nine.

For Colome, Joey Cole took the loss allowing eight runs on 11 hits and four walks in 6.1 innings, striking out three. Cole had three hits and a double, Layton Thieman tallied two hits, a double, and a walk, while Eli Vobr drove in a run in the loss.


Dell Rapids PBR 8, Flandreau Blue Teal 1

MADISON — Drew Sweeter’s complete game on the mound powered Dell Rapids PBR over Flandreau for a spot in the state tournament Friday.

Sweeter allowed a run on seven hits and a walk in nine innings, striking out seven in the win. Zack Puetz had two RBIs on two hits and a walk, Riley Hoffman recorded an RBI on a hit and two walks, Chris Kropuenske drew four walks and drove in a run, while Brayden Pankonen and Conner Spindler each tallied a hit and three walks in the win.

For Flandreau, Emmot Nathan allowed eight runs on six hits and 13 walks in 7.1 innings, striking out 11 in the loss. Dane Mediger tallied two hits in the loss for Flandreau.


Freeman Blacksox 9, Irene Cardinals 6

WYNOT — A four-run eighth inning lifted Freeman over Irene for the last spot in the District 6B tournament.

Avery Mellman had three RBIs on three hits, a double and a walk, Trey Ortman tallied three RBIs on two hits, Jackson Fiegen had two RBIs on one hit and one walk, Clint Dangel recorded an RBI on two hits, including a solo homer, while Jake Weier collected a hit and two walks in the win. Fiegen earned the victory on the mound tossing 16 strikeouts in nine innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and three walks.

For Irene, Tate Gale took the loss, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and six walks in seven innings, striking out 11. Anthony De La Torre Guglielmana tallied two RBIs on three hits, one double, Preston Gall recorded three RBIs on a double, while Dustin Livingston and Cole Edberg each had two hits in the loss.


Renner Monarchs 2, Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 1

RENNER — A walk-off walk powered Renner over the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels in East District tournament action Friday.

Jeremiah Mauch took the win on the mound, allowing one run on five hits and three walks in nine innings, striking out 13 in the win. Maddux Baggs had two hits and an RBI, JT Mix collected two hits while Ben Ihrke had an RBI on a hit and a walk in the win.

For the Squirrels, Trevor Hurley allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one inning of relief in the loss. Jack Simonsen drove in the lone run of the game for SF on one hit and one walk as well.


Harrisburg Woodies 9, Mitchell Aces 1

YANKTON — Aaron LaBrie struck out 13 batters as Harrisburg defeated Mitchell in the opening round of the South District Tournament Friday.

LaBrie allowed just one run on six hits in nine innings pitched, striking out 13 in the win. Maddux Scherer had two hits and an RBI, Mark Abrahamson added two RBI on a hit, Tyler Mitzel and Jack Sutton combined for three RBIs on three walks, Isaac Loosmore recorded an RBI single while Carson Drexler and Nathan Motl each had a hit and a walk in the win.

For Mitchell, Blake Brosz took the loss allowing four runs on two hits and three walks in 3.1 innings, striking out two. Peyton Mandel had two hits and an RBI, while Conor Mattke added two hits in the loss.


Sioux Falls Brewers 17, Yankton Lakers 11

YANKTON — Sioux Falls pounded out 20 hits as the Brewers defeated Yankton in the opening round of South District tournament action.

Sam Baier batted 5-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs, Charlie Dubanoski collected five RBIs on three hits and a walk, Drue Soukup netted three hits and three RBIs, R Johnson recorded an RBI on three hits and a walk, TJ Miller tallied two RBIs on two hits, while Cory Schilling and Andrew Langner each recorded an RBI on one hit in the win. Evan Furst took the win on the mound in five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out four.

For Yankton, Drew Ryken took the loss allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and three walks in four innings, striking out three. Waylon McNight drove in two runs on three hits, Lucas Kampshoff recorded an RBI on three hits, Josh Sheldon had two hits, a walk and an RBI, Rex Ryken had two RBIs on one hit, while Dylan Rodgers added an RBI on one hit and one walk in the loss.


Brookings Cubs 10, Baltic River Dawgs 0 (7 innings)

BROOKINGS — Arlen Peters’ 18-strikeouts powered Brookings over Baltic in North District tournament action.

Peters allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings, striking out 18 in just 96 pitches in the win. Tucker Wookey had three RBIs on two hits for the Cubs, Noah Buss had two RBIs on two hits and a walk, Lincoln Vasgaard and Justin Cofell each tallied two hits and an RBI, Peters added two hits, while Myles Rees and Jake Ammann each had an RBI on one hit in the win.

For Baltic, Matt White surrendered 10 runs on 13 hits and two walks in 6.1 innings, striking out seven. Kooper Perry tallied the lone hit of the game for Baltic.


Brookings Cubs 15, Baltic River Dawgs 2

BROOKINGS — Brookings pounded out 11 hits and drew 14 walks as it clinched a spot in the Class A state tournament Friday.

Myles Rees had two RBIs on two hits and a walk, including a double, Jake Ammann added three RBIs on two hits, Chase McDaniel recorded an RBI on two hits and two walks, Henry Hammrich, Arlen Peters, Justin Cofell, Logan Anderson and Tucker Wookey each drove in a run on one hit, combining for eight walks in the win. Anderson took the victory on the mound in two runs on three hits and a walk in six innings, striking out 10.

For Baltic, Carter Sorenson took the loss allowing three runs on four hits and five walks in five innings, striking out four. Kooper Perry drove in a run on one hit in the loss.
