Ashlan Blount of Red Cloud has two Class A top-10 times in two events we don’t normally see athletes undertake. 

Blount ran a 11:39.73, 3,200 meter run and is now ranked No. 6 in that event. The Crusader eighth grader is also ranked No. 8 in the Class A 300-meter hurdles. 

The Sioux Falls Christian girls relays teams certainly showed up at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. 

The Chargers won the 3,200 meter relay (9:30.07), the sprint medley relay (4:13.38), the 1,600 meter relay (4:09.54) and the 400-meter relay (:50.46) in Sioux Falls. Those times are the fastest in Class A for each of those relays. 

Sioux Falls Christian was headed for a sweep in the relays until Parker’s Lexi Even ran a superb anchor as the Pheasants won the 800-meter relay and lead Class A with a time of 1:45.91.

Mount Vernon’s Berkeley Engelland ran a spectacular 800-meter run in the girls special event. Her time of 2:11.75 is one of the fastest times in South Dakota history. Engelland also has the fastest 400-meter time in Class A (:57.24). 

New leaders in the Class A hurdling events this week. Silja Gunderson of Dakota Valley has the best 100-meter hurdles time of :15.51. Brandy Pulse of McCook Central/Montrose has the fastest 300-meter hurdles time of :47.94.

One of the kind of off-the radar movers this week was Lindsey Roth of Ethan/Parkston. Roth ran a 5:20.70, 1,600 meter run this week and is ranked No. 2 in that event. Roth is also ranked No. 6 in the Class A girls 800-meter run.
