When Belle Fourche senior Sawyer Clarkson crossed the finish line of the 3,200-meter run at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays his time of 9:07.70 put him into the top-10 all time in South Dakota history. Clarkson is right behind Jim Reinhart of Sioux Falls Lincoln (1973) and just in front of Madison’s Jeff Schemmel (1971). 

Clarkson, a future Gonzaga Bulldog, has the fifth best Class A 800-meter run (1:59.65) and the fastest 1,600-meter run (4:20.48). 

The Hill City boys are putting together some solid distance running this spring. Luke Rupert has Class A’s third fastest time in the 3,200 meter run (9:33.43) while teammate Tater Grabow is sixth fastest (9:56.89).The Hill City 3,200-meter relay team has the third fastest time in Class A (8:14.46). 

Two Hamlin sprinters made their appearance in the Class A 200-meter rankings this week. Zac VanMeeteren (:22.86) is third ranked in Class A while Luke Fraser (:23.04) has the eighth fastest time in Class A. Hamlin now has the third fastest Class A 800-meter relay (1:33.04). 

Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Reed Rus is really coming on in the 110-meter hurdles. He made the final of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays and now leads Class A with a (:15.03). Sioux Falls Christian senior Josiah Adams won the 300-meter hurdles at Howard Wood and has the fastest time in South Dakota this spring (:38.54).
