One of the athletes to keep an eye on this weekend at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays is Sioux Falls Christian senior Josiah Adams. Adams has top  Class A times in the 100-meter dash (:10.54) and 200-meter dash (:22.38). He is also the Class A leader in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.07) and 300-meter hurdles (:38.54). Adams won’t run all open events and will likely be on several of the championship caliber relay teams the Chargers are fielding this weekend.

The Sioux Falls Christian boys have the top Class A times in all five relays. 

We have a new leader in the Class A 400 meters as Lead-Deadwood’s James Pierce ran a :49.34. Lead-Deadwood has Class A’s fourth fastest time in the 800-meter relay (1:33.71) and the fourth fastest time in the 1,600 meter relay (3:35.22). 

Distance fans don’t talk about him very often but Deuel senior Ricky Berndt has a very fast time in the Class A 1,600-meter run (4:26.04). A couple of really young guys to watch in the distance events are Sioux Falls Christian eighth-grader Levi Vander Leest and Lennox ninth-grader Cloy McVey. Vander Leest has the eighth fastest time in the Class A 3,200-meter run (10:01.91). McVey is just outside the top-10 in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run but has the 10th fastest 800-meter run time of (2:03.17). 

Some really interesting jumping battles are coming later this month between Aberdeen Roncalli’s Jayden Munroe and Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert. Munroe has Class A’s top long jump (22-5) with Deckert at (22-3). The order is reversed in the triple jump where Deckert has the best leap (44-5) with Munroe second at (44-3).
