A year ago Mt. Vernon Plankington’s Reagan Rus finished fifth in the Class A 300-meter hurdles at the state meet. She finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles last May just missing the Class A final. 

Early this season the sophomore has been putting up some quick times in both hurdling events. Rus leads all Class A girls in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.59). Her time of (:46.93) in the 300-meter hurdles is the best time in South Dakota this spring. 

The Tea Area girls are having a good season in the sprints and relays. The Titans have the seventh fastest 400-meter relay team (:52.60) the fourth fastest 800 meter relay (1:51.18) and the second fastest 1,600 meter relay team (4:12.24). 

The Class A girls long jump looks to be a very competitive Class A event. West Central’s Emma Goehring uncorked a (17-7.5) leap this week. Ethan/Parkston’s Lauren Ziebert has jumped (17-0) and Hanson’s Karlie Goergen has a best of (16-11.75). 

The Sioux Falls Christian girls are dominating the distance events in the early part of their track season. Ellie Maddox and Sadie Pettengill are both ranked in the top-six of the 1,600 meter run. The Christian girls have three runners, Corinne Braun, Natalie Smith and Maddox that are ranked in the 3,200 meter run. 

Keep an eye out for Bennett County Reagan O’Neill. O’Neill has jumped over 16-feet twice this season and has the eighth best Class A long jump (16-3.75).
