Corsica-Stickney boys edge Burke by one point for Region 5B title

LAKE ANDES — The Burke girls and Corsica-Stickney boys earned team titles at Thursday’s Region 5B track and field meet. 

The Corsica-Stickney boys edged Burke (122-121) for the team title. Wessington Springs (96) placed third. 

The Burke girls amassed 220 points, finishing ahead of Corsica-Stickney (94.5) and Andes Central/Dakota Christian (86).

On the boys side, Corsica-Stickney’s Shad Bosma was a double winner in the 110-meter hurdles (:17.33) and 300-meter hurdles (:41.90). Corsica-Stickney’s Lucas Krogstad won the discus (139-3) and shot put (43-10.5). 

On the girls side, Piper Hanson won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.83) and 300-meter hurdles (:48.50). 

Burke’s Paige Bull won the discus (119-7) and placed second in the shot put (35-6.5). 

Braelyn Duerfeldt won the 100-meter dash (:13.89), Brecken Bolander won the 1,600-meter run (6:16.69), Kailee Frank captured the 3,200-meter run (12:49.20) and Daytona Paris won the high jump (4-8) for the Cougars. Paris also placed second in the triple jump (31-2.75). 

The Burke girls won all five relays to help spark the dominant team title.
