Custer sweeps Region 8A track and field titles

RAPID CITY — The Custer Wildcats claimed team titles at Thursday’s Region 8A track and field meet. The Custer boys racked up 151 points to turn back Belle Fourche (119) and Hot Springs (103). The Wildcats were powered by titles from Miles Ellman in the 3,200 meter run (10:31.53), Justin Doyle in the shot put (49-9.75) and Dossen Elmore in the discus (135-8). 

Belle Fourche senior Aiden Giffin won the 100-meter dash (:10.90) and set a meet record in the long jump (22-1.25). The Broncs also won region titles in the 800-meter relay (1:37.94) and the 3,200 meter relay (9:24.95). 

 Hot Springs senior Warren Russell was a double winner, claiming titles in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.18) and 300-meter hurdles (:46.35).

In girls action, Custer scored 181 points to earn a comfortable win over Belle Fourche (144). For Custer, Jordyn Larsen won the 100-meter dash (:12.48) and the 200-meter dash (:28.19).

The Wildcats swept the running events, winning the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the 1,600 meter run and the 3,200 meter run. Custer’s Kellyn Kortemeyer was a double winner in the shot put (46-11) and discus (151-2).

Hill City’s Riley Wiese won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.94). Riese was also part of the winning 800-meter relay (1:51.07).
