Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth breaks state discus record

MENNO — Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth set the South Dakota state record in the discus at Thursday’s Menno Relays. The senior threw the discus 171-8 to break Custer’s Kellyn Kortemeyer state record of 165-11 set at the 2022 state track meet. 

Leiseth’s mark is currently the second best discus mark in the nation, behind Emma Sralla (Lewisville, Texas) with a toss of 193-8. 

At Thursday’s meet, Leiseth finished in front of teammate Kami Wadsworth (129-1) and Burke’s Paige Bull (121-4). 

Leiseth, who has signed to throw at the University of Florida, already holds the state record in the shot put (52-6.75). 

At Thursday’s meet in Menno Leiseth won the shot put (47-6.25).


Centerville girls, Hanson boys win titles at Menno Relays

MENNO — The Centerville girls and Hanson boys claimed team titles at the Menno Relays on Thursday. 

The Centerville girls racked up 92.5 points, ahead of Burke (63) and Colman-Egan (61.5). 

The Hanson boys scored 65 points to edge Menno (59) and Sioux Valley (56) and Canistota (56).

Northwestern’s Ella Boekelheide was a double winner in the 800-meter run (2:29.49) and 1,600-meter run (5:35.29). 

Colman-Egan’s Daniela Lee won the 100-meter dash (:12.69) and placed second in the 200-meter dash (:25.55). Arlington’s Chloe Raw won the 200-meter dash (:25.30) and finished second in the 100-meter dash (:12.71).

Irene-Wakonda’s Emma Marshall was a double winner in the long jump (16-2.25) and 400-meter dash (1:01.85). 

Menno’s Ashton Massey captured first-place finishes in the triple jump (33-4) and 300-meter hurdles (:47.39). She also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.81).

Colman-Egan captured first-place finishes in the 400, 800 and 1,600-meter relays. 

On the boys side, Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Lucas Flemmer was a double winner in the 200-meter dash (:21.74), 400-meter dash (:51.47) and placed second in the 100-meter dash (:10.69). 

Estelline/Hendricks’ Jon Nefzger won the shot put (49-2) and placed second in the discus (140-4).

Hanson’s Keaton Weber was a double winner in the long jump (20-9.75) and triple jump (40-1.25). 

Hamlin claimed first-place finishes in the 400 and 800-meter relays.
