The Harrisburg Tigers racked up 94 points to hold off Rapid City Stevens (90) and Brandon Valley (89) for the Class AA boys track and field title. Aberdeen Central (82) and Spearfish (62) rounded out the top five. 

Harrisburg’s Carson Barnett won the first ever javelin state title (173-9) while Ben Stratman captured gold in the 400-meter dash (:49.13). Tim Bishop nabbed a pair of 2nd place finishes in the 100-meter dash (:11.11) and 200-meter dash (:22.33). 

Rapid City Stevens trailed Harrisburg, 94-90 entering the 1,600 meter relay but false started with an opportunity to overtake Harrisburg.

Junior Simeon Birnbaum was named the Class AA MVP after winning the 1,600 meter run (4:15.85) and anchoring the Raiders’ sprint medley team to a meet record time of 3:32.00. Tanner Lunders finished 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.29) and 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles (:40.16) to aid Rapid City Stevens. 

Brandon Valley had a pair of mishaps or they may have hoisted the team title. Julian Watson was leading the 400-meter dash before tightening up and finishing 3rd. Jeremiah Donahoe, the prohibitive favorite in the 300-meter hurdles was leading big but fell with several hurdles to go and finished 8th. The Lynx did capture state titles in the 400-meter relay (:42.7) the 800-meter relay (1:28.27) and finished the day winning the 1,600 meter relay (3:23.16). 

Jaden Guthmiller of Spearfish won the 100-meter dash (:10.91) and 200-meter dash (:22.26). 

Aberdeen Central’s AidenHeimann won the 300-meter hurdles (:39.96).
