O'Gorman's Alea Hardie runs state's second-fastest time in 1,600-meter run

BRANDON — Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Alea Hardie ran a blistering 1,600-meter run at Tuesday’s Brandon Valley Last Chance track and field meet.

Hardie covered the 1,600-meter distance in four-minutes and :44.25 seconds, the best time in Class AA and second-best all-time in state history. Yankton’s Ramsey Kavan set the all-time record in 2005, finishing in 4:43.5. Hardie’s time is currently the ninth-best time in the country. 


Also on the girls side, Brandon Valley’s Meghan Walker was a double winner in the 100-meter dash (:12.50) and 200-meter dash (:25.14). 

Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Nancy Peter won the high jump (5-0) and triple jump (37-11), while she finished fourth in the long jump (17-0.25). 

Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Manny Struck was a double winner in the high jump (6-4) and triple jump (42-5.75).

Sioux Falls Washington’s Kael Miedema won the discus (178-5) and shot put (59-7.50). Miedema's discus mark set a school record in the event, breaking the previous record set by Jim Adams in 1969.
