Rylan McDonnell has huge day at Wall Invitational

WALL — Wall’s Rylan McDonnell uncorked several big jumps and won four events at Monday’s Wall Invitational. 

The senior won the long jump (22-7.5) and triple jump (43-7.25). Both of those marks are the best in Class B and the long jump is the best leap in South Dakota this spring. McDonnell also won the 100 meter dash (:11.42) and the 200 meter dash (:23.26). 

It was a good day for the Philip distance runners as Baylor Burns won the 800-meter run (2:15.59), Asher Peterson the 1,600-meter run (5:20.33) and Wakely Burns the 3,200-meter run (10:46.24). 

Faith’s Rylan Palmer finished second in the 100-meter dash (:11.63), won the 400-meter dash (:56.69) and ran a leg on Faith’s winning 400-meter relay team (:47.60)

In girls action Wall’s Nora Dinger won the 100-meter dash (:12.96) and the long jump (16-11) and ran a leg on Wall’s winning 400-meter relay team (:54.68). Paige Kjerstad won the 400-meter dash (1:05.25) and ran legs on the winning 400-meter relay (:54.68) and 1,600-meter relay teams (4:36.78). 

Wall’s April Schulz won the shot put (32-0) and discus (96-3).

Jones County senior Emma Hunt won the 100-meter hurdles (:17.42) and 300-meter hurdles (:50.63). Jones County senior Jolie Dugan won the 1,600-meter run (5:58.58) and 3,200-meter run (13:01.75). 

In the team standings, Wall girls captured the title with 185 points. Philip (73) and Jones County (62) placed second and third, respectively. 

Philip won the boys title with 154 points, finishing ahead of Wall (101.5) and Kadoka Area (86).
