Sioux Falls Washington’s Kael Miedema has committed to the University of Nebraska track and field team. The senior thrower announced his intentions Monday on Twitter.

Miedema won last season’s Class AA state championships in the shot put and discus throws, while he claimed third in the discus in 2021.

Earlier this year, Miedema threw the state’s third longest discus throw (193 feet) at the AAU Region 14 Qualifier in Des Moines, Iowa. Aberdeen Central’s George Amundson (211-4) and Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Jack Lembke (198-3) are first and second, respectively.

Miedema also won the shot put (62-3.75) at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, this past year. His mark moved Miedema into No. 8 on the all-time boys shot put list in South Dakota.
