SIOUX FALLS — All season long the Spearfish girls pole vaulters have been a notch better than the rest of the AA field. 

On Thursday, on day one of the state track meet Gretchen Adamski (11-9) and Reese Nida (11-9) finished first and second in the Class AA pole vault. The Spartan girls scored 30.5 points Thursday, ahead of O’Gorman (30) and Sioux Falls Lincoln (21). Brandon Valley (18) and Yankton (16) round out the top-five. 

The Sioux Falls O’Gorman boys scored 22 points, ahead of Brandon Valley (18) and Sioux Falls Jefferson (17). Yankton (15) and Harrisburg (14) round out the top-five. 

Thursday’s state track champions girls: 

3,200 meter relay: 9:07.03 (Addison Scholten, Sarah VanDeBerg, Lily Rude, Mia Wentzy, meet record). 

Sprint Medley Relay: 1. Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 4:06.06 (Audrey Meyer, Jenna Krouse, Mahli Abdouch, Libby Castelli, meet record). 2. Brandon Valley, 4:06.78; 3. Yankton 4:08.09.

(The top three teams all ran under the previous meet record). 

Long jump: 1. Nyariek Kur, Sioux Falls Washington, 18-4

Friday’s boys state champions: 

3,200 meter relay: 1. Sioux Falls O’Gorman, 8:00.70 (Jack Castelli, Evan Mahrous, Andrew Daily, Sam Castle).

Sprint Medley Relay: Rapid City Stevens, 3:34.12 (Beck Morgan, Ben Lust, Grady Loos, Simeon Birnbaum). 

Long jump: 1. Landon Dulaney, 22-7.25.

Javelin: 1. Carson Barnett, Harrisburg, 176-6.
