BOSTON — Rapid City Stevens senior Simeon Birnbaum finished third in the Junior Mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday. 

The University of Oregon bound distance standout ran a time of 4:05.29, finishing behind Rocky Hansen (4:01.11) and Connor Burns (4:03.08). 

Birnbaum became the first South Dakota prep athlete to break the 4-minute mile barrier when he ran a 3:59.51 last summer. 

Birnbaum will be back in action competing in the New Balance Grand Prix Nationals on March 11-12.
