Winner’s Keelie Kuil earns three first-place finishes at Hanson Invitational

ALEXANDRIA — Winner sophomore Keelie Kuil had a big day at Monday’s Hanson Invitational. 

Kuil won the 200-meter dash in a season’s best time of :26.53. She also ran legs on Winner’s winning 400-meter relay (:52.15) and 1,600 meter relay (4:13.69) and a leg on the second place 800-meter relay (1:48.69). 

The West Central boys and girls each won team titles. The West Central girls racked up 163 points, ahead of Madison (112) and Hanson (110.33).

In a very tight boys race West Central scored 116 points, edging Hanson (112.5) and Madison (110). 

In girls action West Central did most of its damage on the track. Molli Thornton won the 100-meter dash (:13.02) and was part of West Central’s first-place 800-meter relay (1:47.81)

The Trojan girls swept the distance events with Drew Caffrey winning the 3,200-meter run (13:28.36), Bailey Stallman the 800-meter run (2:27.58) and Brie Peters the 1,600-meter run (5:24.05). 

McCook Central/Montrose had a pair of double-winners as Aubyn Schmidt won the shot put (39-8.25) and discus (128-0). Brandy Pulse won the 100-meter hurdles (:16.32) and 300-meter hurdles (:46.97). 

The Madison girls swept the jumping events with Audrey Nelson winning the high jump (5-6), Maycee Theede the long jump (16-125) and Lydia Nelson the triple jump (35-6.75). 

The West Central boys earned wins from Layton Johnson in the 200-meter dash (:22.62) and Wyatt Nielsen in the 400-meter dash (:50.69). Johnson and Nielsen each ran legs on the first-place 800-meter relay (1:32.70). West Central also captured the medley relay (3:37.80) and Liam Schmeichel won the 300-meter hurdles (:41.70).

Hanson sophomore Weston Kayser won the 100-meter dash (:11.44) and ran on Hanson’s second place 800-meter relay (1:33.49). Hanson’s Brock Tuttle won the shot put (50-2) and teammate, Keaton Weber, won the long jump (20-5.25) and was second in the triple jump (41-10). 

For Madison, freshman Shane Veenhof won the 110-meter hurdles (:16.44) while junior Aaron Hawkes captured the pole vault (13-6).
