Wolsey-Wessington sweeps Region 3B track and field titles

DE SMET — The Wolsey-Wessington track and field teams swept Region 3B titles on Thursday.

The Wolsey-Wessington boys finished with 136.5 points, followed by Estelline/Hendricks (114) and De Smet (95). The Wolsey-Wessington girls racked up 153 points, finishing ahead of Arlington (118.66) and James Valley Christian (110).

On the boys side, Wolsey-Wessington’s Joey Hoverson (200-meter dash), Moshe Richmond (high jump) and Carson Walters (pole vault) were first-place finishers. 

Hitchcock-Tulare’s T.J. Salmen was a double winner in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.42) and 300-meter hurdles (:44.54). 

Estelline/Hendricks’ Jon Nefzger was a double winner in the discus (132-5) and shot put (49-0).

Castlewood won four relays: 400, 800, 1,600 and sprint medley. 

On the girls side, Wolsey-Wessington’s Mya Boomsma (100-meter dash), Kendal Uttecht (800-meter run) and Faith Nelson (discus) were individual winners. 

Estelline/Hendricks’ Sadie Johnson won the 300-meter hurdles (:50.26), long jump (15-10.25), triple jump (31-0.75) and pole vault (9-6). 

Castlewood’s Mackenzie Everson was a double winner in the 200-meter dash (:28.28) and 400-meter dash (1:03.92). 

Arlington’s Hadley Carlson won the high jump (5-1) and 100-meter hurdles (:16.69). 

Wolsey-Wessington also won three relays: 400, 3,200 and sprint medley.
